Leading Through Excellence
The University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club is one of the oldest collegiate choruses in the United States and the oldest continually-run student organization on the Michigan campus, but it is not only longevity that sets UMMGC apart. Across more than 150 years of history, UMMGC continues to lead on campus and abroad through a strong spirit of tradition, camaraderie, and musical excellence.
With the University’s Bicentennial year upon us, we reflect on the solid foundation that the Club has established and look to the future while planning for greater impact.
Give a gift to UMMGC to ensure the excellence you have come to know and respect for future generations.
UMMGC has distinguished itself as a premier performing ensemble and is in demand to appear at festivals and conferences around the world. From winning at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales in 1959 to performing at the ACDA National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2015, the Club consistently represents the best of what the University of Michigan has to offer near and far.
From collaborations with the nation’s top professional choirs and artists to premiering new works about social justice issues like the Flint Water Crisis, the UMMGC keeps its audience on the edges of their seats with the innovative programming at its annual concerts. The Club understands the unique position the arts can have in interpreting and explaining our world and it has made a commitment to push the boundaries of what is expected in choral performance.
Give a gift to UMMGC to support the diversity of musical offerings.
Each concert also offers a new opportunity to commission and premiere new works for male chorus. In the past five years, the Club has premiered over 25 new works and arrangements, including “Harriet Tubman” and “Bound for the Promised Land” which have gone on to be published under the Dr. Eugene Rogers’ Choral Series in Hal Leonard catalogue.
The Club has enjoyed a great tradition of domestic and international tours, even circumnavigating the globe in 1967! Touring heightens the social and musical experience for our young singers and allows us to share the joy of choral music with audiences all over the world.

UMMGC is dedicated to bringing the joy of choral music to others in their community and throughout the nation. With the annual Male Vocal Arts Day, young men from high schools across the state of Michigan gather in Ann Arbor and participate in a day filled with vocal workshops, rehearsals, and a culminating performance with the Glee Club. Additionally, the Club “adopts” a high school choir program each year, collaborating with its students over the course of a semester in its annual Brothers in Song program. Clubbers befriend and rehearse with these young singers who have hailed from Ypsilanti, MI; Washington D.C., Chicago, and Los Angeles, becoming positive role models and fostering strong musical friendships.
