Michigan Song Contest

Thank you to everyone who submitted a song!

Three texts have been selected from the over 60 submissions.

The University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club received over 60 submissions to our recent contest calling for lyrics for our next Michigan Song. A committee composed of our musical director Dr. Eugene Rogers, several Glee Clubbers, an alumnus, and our composer Professor Kristin Kuster carefully evaluated each submission. Lyrics were presented to the committee in a blinded fashion, with no information about the lyricist other than their submitted text was provided, to make the contest as fair as possible. After a thorough review of these submissions, selections from three texts were chosen to comprise our new Michigan song.

Congratulations to:

Nicholas LaCerva, Undergraduate Student, English Major

Daniel Walden, Ph.D. Candidate in Classical Studies and Current Glee Clubber

Robert Seidenstein, Alumnus, Class of 1974

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit their lyrics to our contest. We wish we could write 65 new songs with all of the incredible texts we received! The University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club appreciates your artistry and thanks you for sharing it with us.

Our new Michigan song, with lyrics from the submissions of these three individuals, will be premiered by the Men’s Glee Club in our Spring Concert on Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at 8pm in Hill Auditorium. The piece will also be performed in our Ambassadors of Song International Male Chorus Symposium on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 in Hill Auditorium. We look forward to sharing this new work with the University of Michigan community very soon! Go Blue!
